Embers of War now on sale

Embers of War, the latest expansion for Legend of the Five Rings, is now live on the site, in stock and ready to order. Per the AEG web site, EoW cards will be legal for tournament play starting on June 2nd, so get the cards you need for your last month of Kotei season, and for the summer tournaments such as GenCon.

Don’t forget to stock up on key cards from Before the Dawn, Second City, and Emperor Edition.

On new set releases and “street dates”

Some of you have noticed that we’ve stocked the last two releases (Emperor Edition and Embers of War) prior to the actual official release of the product from distributors to stores. A few have even gone so far as to raise the question with AEG directly, and as a result, here’s the simple explanation:

DocAngst.com, like at least one other L5R card singles shop, gets their initial wave of product directly through a local gaming shop as a means of supporting their gaming community. These shops are allowed to sell their product starting on the dates available for running pre-release tournaments for the set — thus, Emperor Edition was available starting in late January (minus starter decks), and Embers of War is available starting from this past weekend.

That’s it. There’s no secret backdoor, no distributor shenanigans. Our first wave of new product comes directly from a purchase via our local games retailer, and is therefore available before some shops (those not running pre-releases) have it available for sale. We are thankful that AEG has restored the pre-release tournaments which enable this to happen.

Full Bleed Champions and Strongholds now on sale

The spectacular full bleed Clan Champions and Strongholds for Emperor Edition are now on sale. These cards have no text except for the card title and any relevant numbers; the rest of the card is border-to-border concentration on the amazing artwork. They may be played as fully tournament-legal proxies for the regular version of the same cards — see here for information about the cards and examples of just how good they look. Available for all nine major clans, as well as the two Unaligned Strongholds. These cards are in limited supply, so get yours now!

Emperor Edition on sale now!

Legend of the Five Rings’ much-anticipated eleventh base set, Emperor Edition, is now live on the site, in stock and ready to order. This is only the first wave of cards; as more product becomes available and is opened and sorted, it will be added to the site.

Only boosters have been released for sale so far via retail stores, so fixed cards (strongholds and champions) are not available for sale yet — though you can still print and play proxies from the Kolat Edition PDF until March 19th, 2012. The 2012 Kotei Season will be entirely Emperor-legal, so get your cards today.

Don’t forget to stock up on key cards from Before the Dawn and Second City, as these previously-released expansions are Emperor legal — and feature many can’t-miss cards for tournament-caliber decks.

Due to an upcoming vacation, orders placed after 11:59pm on Thursday, 10/13/2011, will not be filled until after I return, with mailing to take place on or after Tuesday, 10/25/2011. All orders which are in before that time should be filled and shipped before I leave.
